Our Goal:
To identify, promote, negotiate and establish participatory partnerships with resources development companies and government agencies to ensure that the socio-economic concerns, issues, needs and interests of our Community of Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal Peoples residing throughout our traditional ancestral homelands (off Indian Act created reserves) are accommodated through meaningful project term consultation and arrangements to measurably realize benefits as primary stakeholders of the natural resources in and around Mi’kma’ki.
Serving:
The Native Council of Nova Scotia large Community of Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal Peoples who continue to reside on traditional Mi’kmaq territory throughout Nova Scotia undisplaced to Indian Act Reserves.
How We Help:
Create the supportive information and advisory links about resources development projects with the relevant N.C.N.S. social economic programs.
Liaise and report on consultation and partnership development arrangement progress with the Office of the Chief and President of the N.C.N.S. and the Commissioner of the N.C.N.S. Netukulimkewe’l Commission.
Negotiate and establish through consultation and participatory partnerships throughout the life of a resource development project the accommodation of the concerns, issues, needs, interests and access opportunities for business, employment, training, skills development, community capacity and investment opportunities in resources development projects generally, with primary focus on the oil and gas industry on-shore and off-shore on the East Coast.
Document and follow several resource development projects simultaneously and participate in all reviews as well as comment and draft responses and N.C.N.S. positions as well as securing intervener status before all regulatory review processors.
Participate in the oil and gas advisory committees to advance and protect the interests of the Native Council of Nova Scotia community of Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal Peoples before these committees.
Develop and establish the MERDS team required to advance our goal and our work for our Community.
